British Lad Denies Biting Soi Dog, Insists It Was “Just a Nibble”

PHUKET, THAILAND — A 22-year-old British tourist has vehemently denied biting a local soi dog during a late-night altercation near Bangla Road, claiming the incident was “blown out of proportion” and that it was “just a nibble, really.”
The man, identified only as Callum from Essex, reportedly got into a physical dispute with the dog after leaving a beach bar at around 2:30 a.m., shirtless, barefoot, and holding a half-eaten spring roll.
Witnesses say the incident began affably. Callum and Nong Moo Moo initially posed for a photo before the soi dog took a sniff — some say an attempted nibble — of Callum’s spring roll.
That’s when the situation allegedly escalated. Callum lunged forward, according to witnesses, bit Nong Moo Moo on the ear.
“There was barking. From both of them,” said one witness, a tuk-tuk driver who rated the fight “less violent than usual, but much weirder.”
Callum, when questioned by police, insisted he had no intent to harm the animal.
“I did not bite it,” he stated emphatically. “I was just asserting dominance. That’s how it works with dogs, innit? You’ve got to show you’re alpha. It was more of a love bite, like a little nibble.”
Veterinary staff at a local rescue clinic confirmed Nong Moo Moo suffered no serious injuries but has refused to go near white men in tank tops ever since.
Authorities say Callum was fined 1,000 baht for public nuisance and warned that future infractions could lead to deportation. He has also been asked to undergo a precautionary rabies test — “for the dog’s sake,” according to one officer.
Callum has repeatedly denied any nose beers had contributed to the incident. However, he has declined to take a drug test.
